Our coaching approach

We coach the whole leader.

Most executive coaching works on the leader at the desk and leaves the rest of the person in the parking lot. The decisions a CEO makes at work are shaped by sleep, health, money, relationships, and the question of what it is all for. We spend most of our time on leadership and the business, because that’s why people hire us. But the walled-off parts are where the trouble grows, and we go there.

The job

People come to us for leadership. Then something else creeps in.

I’m so tired. My partner thinks I’m ignoring them. I have no free time. I haven’t seen a friend in months.

We coach the whole leader, because leaders have to keep leading for a long time and the rest of their lives have to hold up under it.

The surface area

Performance

Training, sleep, recovery, nutrition, lab work, and the longevity questions that come with a long career. We’re both certified personal trainers and long-time experimenters. Plain talk and current research.

Mind

Attention, stress, meditation, mental models, philosophy, and the experience of being a mind that has everything banging around inside it.

Relationships

Partnership, parenting, family of origin, friendship, the loneliness of the top job. We’ve run companies together for nearly two decades; partnership under pressure is a specialty.

Money

Income, equity, wealth, lifestyle, philanthropy, legacy. The relationship you have to money, beyond the spreadsheet of it. What you’ve built, what it’s for, what enough looks like, what comes after.

Career & identity

Founder identity, exec identity, post-exit identity, the second mountain, the identity collapse that often follows the outcome you spent ten years chasing.

Meaning

Purpose, mortality, what you’re doing here, what you want your life to have been when it’s done. We are not in the business of avoiding the big questions.

How we do it

What this looks like in practice.

We help you build a real support team in every city where you spend time, from top-tier physicians and physical therapists to trainers and reliable sources of good food. We pressure-test the plans you’re already running, and we ask the second-order questions your other practitioners tend to skip. And we sit in the conversations you have nowhere else: money, friendship, partnership, mortality, the territory your other coach won’t touch.

We’re not your trainer, your doctor, or your therapist. We’re the one person looking at all of it at once and helping you decide what matters.

Why this works

You get stronger as a whole system.

Compartmentalization is a useful short-term move and a terrible long-term strategy. Leaders who quietly let their bodies, partnerships, sleep, friendships, or inner lives erode while they optimize the company end up, usually in their forties or fifties, with a successful business and a life they want to escape.

Whole-person work is harder than business coaching, and done well it is the reason the business coaching holds. Health, money, partnership, mortality: if it’s in your life, it’s in the coaching.
